It operates on the principle of creating a Venturi effect, using a constriction or throat within the scrubber to accelerate the gas flow and promote the absorption or collection of pollutants. The polluted gas stream enters the Venturi scrubber through an inlet duct or hood.The Venturi throat is the narrowest part of the scrubber, creating a constriction in the gas flow. As the gas accelerates through this throat, its velocity increases, creating a low-pressure zone that draws in and atomizes the liquid (usually water) used for scrubbing.Water or another liquid scrubbing solution is injected into the throat at high pressure through nozzles or spray headers. The liquid atomizes into tiny droplets, creating a high surface area for contact with the pollutant-laden gas.The atomized liquid droplets capture the airborne particles and gases as they pass through the Venturi throat. The pollutants adhere to the liquid droplets, effectively removing them from the gas stream.

The gas and liquid mixture then enters the scrubbing section, where further contact between the liquid and gas occurs, ensuring efficient pollutant removal.To prevent the escape of liquid droplets and ensure clean gas emissions, mist eliminators (often in the form of demisters or chevron-type blades) are installed downstream of the scrubbing section.The cleaned gas exits the Venturi scrubber and is discharged into the atmosphere.
